BSA Troop 175/Troop 1175 Flag Retiring with the VFW

Special thanks to those scouts who came out today to help retire flags with our charter organization, the VFW.  We ceremonially burned about 150 flags and helped the VFW prepare about 250 more for retiring soon.  We were also honored with the task of helping the sister of veteran retire her brother’s flag.  He was killed in service and she wanted to honor him by respectfully retiring his flag.  It was quite moving and she was very thankful that the Scouts and the VFW were there to help honor her brother.

The Scouts are one of the few organizations approved by the government to destroy old flags through burning. The Girls Troop 1175 as well as the other Troops in town will also be participating.

Photos from the afternoon can be found at in the Troop 175 Photo Library.
