Troop 175 embarked on an extraordinary adventure to Africa this summer, departing from JFK Airport on July 28. The troop flew with Kenya Airways, enjoying a comfortable and seamless journey to Nairobi, Kenya. After a brief layover, they continued to Kilimanjaro Airport, where they were warmly welcomed and transferred to the nearby KIA Lodge for a restful night.
The next day, the group moved to the Marangu Hotel, a familiar and cherished location from past trips. The hotel’s experienced team briefed and outfitted the scouts with necessary equipment, and they met their guides and porters. On August 1, the troop began their ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro via the scenic Rongai Route. The climb was a challenging yet rewarding experience, with breathtaking views and the support of a dedicated team of guides, cooks, and porters.
The Scouts reached the summit after several days of trekking, taking time to acclimate and enjoy the journey. Upon their return to the Marangu Hotel on August 6, they celebrated with much-anticipated showers, a hearty dinner, and a touching tipping ceremony.
On August 7, the troop embarked on a five-day safari with Gosheni Safaris. Traveling in rugged 4×4 Toyota Land Cruisers, they explored Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. The group marveled at the diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes, staying at the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge and Tarangire Sopa Lodge, and concluding their adventure with an overnight stay in Arusha at the Kibo Palace Hotel.
The journey home began on August 11, with a flight from Kilimanjaro Airport to Nairobi, followed by a 12-hour layover where the scouts explored Nairobi before their evening flight back to JFK, arriving on August 12. The trip was a remarkable and unforgettable experience, filled with adventure, camaraderie, and the beauty of Africa.
