Troop 175 Goes Camping in February, The Deep Freeze Trip

Deep FreezeSimsbury Troop 175 held a combined Immortals/Troop outing at Wild Trails Farm in Springfield, VT (about 2 hours from Simsbury). The February camping trip is often known as the “Deep Freeze” trip because of the cold temperatures often encountered camping outdoors this time of year. This tremendous property has been made available to us by the Veltrop family and is a perfect venue for this trip. With hundreds of acres of varied terrain interlaced with miles of cross country ski trails, the farm rivals venues such as Boy Scout Camps Mattatuck and Horace Moses.

The primary activity of the trip involved building and defending a snow “fortress” from a seasoned opposing force, The Immortals. Several troop meetings were dedicated to preparation for this trip. Scouts spent two nights in tents or shelters honing their winter survival skills and completing cooking requirements. Adults had the option of joining the scouts outdoors or lodging indoors.
